Comfort Foods Around The World

Sad? Need some lovin'. Whether it's chocolate, pizza or ice cream, we all have our own go-to when we're feeling bad. However, have you ever thought about whether comfort food varies around the world? We discovered that a lot of comfort food is stereotypical and this is why.

Laska

Laska is a spicy noodle soup which is popular in Asian culture. It's a vegetarian option on curry soup which includes tofu and peanuts. This sounds perfect for blowing that cold away and warming up when it's freezing outside!

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches/Toasties

So this is more of a known classic. Buttering the outside of the bread and grilling it like grilled cheese means that peanut butter becomes super oozy and makes your house smell divine. Who needs air fresheners? An instant pick-me-up.

Cabbage and Noodles

This is a Polish dish which is actually called halushki. It is noodles and cabbage which is cooked in a large pan and coated with a load of butter and herbs. Sounds perfect to me. It's still one of your five a day so it's technically healthy?!

Poutine

Canadians love cheese chips and gravy. This is exactly what Poutine is with a dash of bacon. You either like it or hate it. Should cheese and gravy really be combined? What happened to the maple syrup?

Gookie Dough

How could we not mention it? This is our comfort food. A tub of this stuff will make your day 100 times better so turn that frown upside down. Pick your potion, whether it be red velvet or funfetti. Better yet, popping it in the oven for 12 minutes gives the perfect crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside combo.

Cheese on toast with garlic butter

So basically, cheesy garlic bread? I'm not complaining because it's mouth-wateringly lush. Why have ordinary bread when you can add a dash of garlic butter? Toasted goodness that makes your day go from 0-100 real quick!

Pie

Chicken, lamb, steak, apple, cherry, pecan. Does it matter? Pie in any shape, size, form or flavour is instant comfort food in our opinion. The flaky pastry and the steam that flies out when you slice into it makes your insides warm and happy. If this doesn't remind you of Grandma's house, then nothing will.

Mashed Potatoes

Whoever decided to mush up boiled potatoes and add milk and butter is a pure legend and we salute you. Mash is one of those foods that are impossible to stop eating, but once you do, you know about it. Probably one of the most filling foods in the world but we just can't stop shovelling it in! The creamy texture and fluffiness is the perfect addition to any meal.

What's your comfort food? Beat those January blues and treat yourself!
